I am from Barcelona and Catalan.
Sometimes I talk to young people who are looking for work., and they have thought about coming to Barcelona to work, but they don't dare, I ask them why?
and they answer “because of the language”… and I asked, astonished, what language?
and they answer me “the catalan”.
It is clear that there is a sector of Spain, and I write Spain, who does not know the Catalan social reality.
Catalonia has always been a welcoming territory for immigrants, and for centuries…Now, and for more than a decade, receives a very significant number of Latin American immigrants, maghreb, sub-Saharans, Asians…
Go!… I think I can say they come from everywhere., to work and as tourists.
If all these people who are welcomed, and they work, and set up businesses, and if now they all left at once there would be a cataclysm, If all these people had language problems they wouldn't be here., They couldn't go to La Caixa, They couldn't go to the English Court, they couldn't relate…and believe me, they leave their houses, They deposit their salary in La Caixa, and they are going to buy at Corte Inglés… All this because we Catalans are bilingual., we can speak spanish, and I write Spanish, and Catalan at the same time.
Why Catalonia receives hatred from the political right and the Spanish right-wing press?…everything is for political reasons. Between them they have turned Catalonia into hell and the Catalans into demons… At least that's how they make me feel when I leave Catalonia, and I write Catalonia.
I'm also sick to death… of boycotts, advertising bag, handling, and to speak without knowing…
And when the right needs the political support of a Catalan party?
The evil is already done, when Mr.. Aznar needed the support of a Catalan nationalist party, the Generalitat (autonomous government of Catalonia) had to spend a few, quite a few millions, in cleaning up the image of Catalonia in the rest of Spain.
So that later they say that politics and the media, they have no POWER.
