Lo último y lo penúltimo de Paul Auster

In my first collaboration within this magnificent invention, I would like to write something about the last two novels published by Paul Auster. American and resident of New York, writer of novels and film scripts, was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award the year 2006, fact that has given him a lot of fame in our country.

In this year 2007 his latest novel is published, “Journeys through the Scriptorium”. The novel takes place in a white room, totally closed, window and door closed tight, will it be a psychiatric center? a prison? The main character is very old and sick., suffers amnesia, is not autonomous neither physically nor mentally. The argument… Well there is not much to tell, The only notable thing is the story that the protagonist is reading in some papers., but there is no beginning or end. There are many questions, many doubts. It's all pretty confusing, and it is not possible to know the reason for this whole situation.. But there is an underlying cause, On the last page the author takes the floor, claiming the eternity of his characters and their function within this whole mess..

It is not an easy novel to understand in its entirety., The language is not fluent and the story is not attractive either.. For me it is a difficult novel, It seems more like a literary experiment. Only recommended for readers who like cult novels and have read quite a few Auster novels..

In March 2006 is published “Brooklyn Follies”, It is currently in its eleventh edition.. The novel takes place in a small area of the Brooklyn neighborhood.. The protagonist, Nathan, He is already retired and has just gone through the hard therapy to cure cancer., Physically autonomous and with a very open mind, he tells us in first person everything that happens to him in his new life in the neighborhood., the places he frequents and the characters he meets there. It's a simple story like life itself, with their routines, its surprises and its coincidences, Its funny moments and its sad moments. The language is fresh, light and fluid, easy to read and without taboos but with the innocence of a child.

A totally recommended book for all those who are too lazy to read., or a lot of laziness… You will not defraud them. I had a lot of fun and I wanted to continue reading more chapters..
