El comunicado de Nacho Cano sobre el musical “Today I can not lift”

hoy no me puedo levantar

This is the full statement that Nacho Cano issued after he was prohibited from accessing the music. In the end it's always the same. Money, money, money…

The statement says like this:
“Today I Can't Get Up” is my first song. It is also a beauty spectacle, humor, amistad, love, music and endless emotions. The effort that consumed its creation and recreation has been titanic and the patience and dedication of many people, artists, architects, musicians, dancers, screenwriters, choreographers, set designers, technicians, engineers, etc., simply awesome. It cost me a lot of health and part of my soul.. But if there was any person who absolutely determined the dimension that it would acquire over time, it was our producer. Jose Manuel Lorenzo.

He was the one who had the vision of making an ambitious show, of international scope and he was the one who was removed as president yesterday in my presence and despite my opposition. Previously, José Manuel was offered to buy the DRIVE company (majority partner of Today I can't get up) and only set as the only condition the carrying out of a prior audit of the company. It was not sold.

Today I can't get up has been the first Spanish musical that has been exported to other countries. He has made more than 1.600.000 of people in the world and it is probably the Spanish musical that has the longest life today.,

But it is also a very profitable investment for its shareholders.: In a very short time, the investors recovered the entire investment and today they have raised nearly seventy million euros between Spain and Mexico.. Today, in its fourth season, collection continues to be unstoppable, exceeding last year's occupancy at this time and without showing any sign of exhaustion, but quite the opposite.

The new Management of this company wants to turn this show into a quick profitability machine, reducing staff and altering the content of the work in different ways, content that, until today, It has never been modified for less and always for more. Always for more laughs, more emotions, more jobs, new bets by new artists and ultimately be a show of indefinite permanence if it continues in that direction.

Being the highest grossing show in the history of our country. I wanted to ensure with the new address, al menos, the possibility of maintaining job security for both artists and artists for a year, as technicians and others, of a mega profitable show. It has not been possible. I don't know what I am but I know what I am not.

And I'm not a traitor. I will not betray the brain that made it possible for my creative initiatives and those of all the artists of this company to come to fruition., José Manuel Lorenzo and I will not do it with the public and the cast of artists and workers who for three years have made this what it is today. I may lose sometimes, but I don't lie and that's how I assure that I win.

No one will take away the joy of having participated with thousands of people in an adventure of love., beauty, emotion and ultimately humanity.

That's what won't be there anymore., because people will stop having a name and will become a number.

Mine is already defined “Zero”. Because I only accept that the ship of which I am captain bears my name and they no longer let me board it. Without a doubt there will be some candidate who will win on horseback and with a heel strike, don't have much problem usurping that position on the Gran Vía sign. When I found out about the decision by the new management of the imminent dismissal of Jose Manuel Lorenzo, I had a meeting with the new majority shareholder Angel Suarez to try to find a reasonable solution to all this madness that in my opinion has more to do with personal reasons than anything else and to at least ensure the jobs of the cast and workers for a year in Spain and what the play would give to all the American personnel where after a year and a half of being the number one musical 1 From Mexico we had guarantees to continue with a tour throughout America. It was not possible.

After the manifest uncertainty of many of the workers, I decided to inform them of everything that was happening. Their jobs were going to be put in danger since the dismissal of Jose Manuel Lorenzo and my imminent resignation (since I refuse to legitimize any of these actions) left the path clear for layoffs, reduction of functions, etc.

Today I am prohibited from entering the theater for having committed the crime of informing workers that there are constitutional rights that allow them to fight for their jobs if they so wish, prohibiting themselves., even, access to the theater to have a meeting with a lawyer in which to discuss the matter.

They want to silence and threaten me, in the belief that they will be able to instill in me the same fear with which they try to manage the consciences of those who have mortgages, wife and children. It makes me immensely sad to read in the eyes of many colleagues worried about making ends meet., sadness and fear instead of the looks of complicity on which those payrolls were based for three years, that surely would have lasted a few more years, if the greed of a few had not crossed our space. How sad all this makes me.

Today I Can't Get Up and Nacho Cano are part of a story. What happens from today, will be another.

There is no one essential but God chooses his vehicles. So I want everyone to know that, from today, I sit at the piano, my noble friend, never traitor and clean, with the strings well tuned to wait for the next blow of air to be able to share, create and excite where art and heart, the only two scenarios in which envy, jealousy and excessive greed have no place.

I think that Today I Can't Get Up has outlined a new way of feeling and experiencing musicals. And the beautiful thing about writing a song is that there is no judge who can divorce you from it.. Someone told me that “the wind puts everything in its place.”. What I know is that the wind only moves what has no basis from its place and the basis of this musical is in the Soul.

Thanks to all the actors, dancers, singers, musicians, technicians, ushers and waiters of whom I was boss and friend.

Thanks to the public in Spain and America for coming again and again, to enjoy for four hours and repeat the experience dozens of times. Together we have been part of a miracle.

Thank you all for letting me grow in your eyes. I love you all very much.

Nacho Cano.”
